Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) successfully held the Indonesia Investment Festival 2016 on October 28-29, 2016, at the USU Pendopo. This event was a collaboration between the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) USU. With the theme “Time to Become a Young Investor”, the event was held simultaneously in several cities across Indonesia, including Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bandung. The primary goal was to introduce the concepts of stocks, the stock exchange, and IDX to a broader audience, including students, emphasizing that the stock market is for everyone, not just entrepreneurs.

The Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Runtung, S.H., expressed his strong support for the event, noting its importance in educating students and the public about the stock market. He emphasized that many students and even the general public lack knowledge about investing in the stock market, let alone participating in it. Prof. Runtung hopes the event encourages students to start investing in stocks, as it can enrich their financial literacy and potentially increase their income.

Meanwhile, Rial Syahputra, a ninth-semester student from the Faculty of Economics and Business, explained that HIPMI USU acted as the organizing committee, collaborating with IDX and OJK. He highlighted that the event was also part of the 2016 Youth Pledge Day celebrations, aiming to educate young people on how to invest in the stock market correctly and effectively. The event featured a range of activities, including seminars by OJK, a talk show by HIPMI, a modeling competition, a seminar by IDX Youth Investor, a speech competition, a photography competition, a food bazaar, free health checks, and performances by local bands such as Wina Band and Hazelnut Band. The event is expected to inspire more students and young people to begin their investment journey.
