The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (Fahutan USU), held the DAMAR (Deanery Listens) event on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the Faculty of Forestry USU, Campus 2 Kwala Bekala, Deli Serdang. This activity served as an open dialogue space between faculty leadership and students to voice aspirations, feedback, and various obstacles faced in academic life and student organization activities.

The DAMAR event is one of the initiatives by the leadership of Fahutan USU to build open, participatory, and constructive communication with students. Through this forum, students are given the freedom to convey their views, complaints, and suggestions regarding facilities, faculty programs, service systems, and the dynamics of student organizations.

The Dean of the Faculty of Forestry USU, Prof. Dr. Arida Susilowati, S.Hut., M.Si., attended directly, along with all vice deans, heads and secretaries of study programs, managers, lecturers, the Public Relations team, and students. The presence of the leadership and management elements reflects the commitment to listen to student needs while understanding various issues requiring mutual attention.

During its execution, students conveyed various aspirations and issues, which were then gathered and responded to according to their respective fields and authorities. Faculty leadership, along with relevant officials, provided explanations, responses, and alternative solutions to the matters raised. This dialogue is expected not only to be a medium for expressing opinions but also to serve as a first step in establishing proper, improvement-oriented follow-up actions.

Through DAMAR, Fahutan USU emphasizes the importance of student involvement in the faculty development process. Two-way communication between students and leadership is a vital part of identifying real needs on the ground, evaluating program implementation, and creating an academic environment that is increasingly responsive to the aspirations of the academic community.

The event proceeded smoothly and is expected to become a sustainable communication forum for students and faculty leadership. By listening to aspirations directly, the Faculty of Forestry USU strives to build a healthy culture of dialogue, strengthen mutual trust, and drive faculty progress originating from the needs and ground-level experiences of the academic community.

The implementation of DAMAR aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, through efforts to create an inclusive, responsive educational environment supporting the improvement of learning quality. This activity also supports SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, specifically through strengthening open communication, student participation, and responsive, accountable institutional governance.
