DAAD visited USU Faculty of Forestry to discuss scholarship opportunities in Germany, focusing on master's and doctoral programs with full funding and facilities support.

The Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) or German Academic Exchange Service visited the Faculty of Forestry at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) at the USU Bekala Campus, Pancur Batu, Deli Serdang, on Friday, September 8, 2023. The visit was attended by Dr. Guido Schnieders, Director of the DAAD Regional Office Jakarta, along with La Budza (Program Officer for Doctoral Scholarship and Alumni Program) and Annisa Fitria (Head of Research Science and Technology Section, German Embassy in Jakarta).


This visit aimed to discuss collaboration opportunities and postgraduate scholarship programs in Germany, especially for Forestry alumni pursuing master's degrees and lecturers planning doctoral studies. During his presentation, Dr. Guido specifically invited the Faculty of Forestry’s academic community at USU to study in Germany, highlighting the numerous benefits, such as full support from DAAD in facilities and funding. He also congratulated the Faculty of Forestry USU on its Dies Natalis celebration.


Dr. Anita Zaitunah, as the PIC, welcomed the DAAD delegation along with Vice Dean 2 Dr. Pindi Patana, Vice Dean 3 Prof. Dr. Agus Purwoko, Head of the Forestry Study Program Dr. Tito Sucipto, and several young lecturers, including Mariaf Ulfa, M.Sc.; Moehar M. Harahap, M.Sc.; Harisyah Manurung, M.Si.; and Novita Anggraini, M.Sc. Students participating in the "Study Visit DAAD to Germany” program scheduled for October 22-31, 2023, also attended the event.


Dr. Pindi Patana, an alumnus of a German master's program, stated that studying in Germany is a dream for many due to its supportive environment and excellent facilities. He also mentioned that German alumni maintain strong connections with their alma mater and fellow alumni through various academic and non-academic activities.
