In its implementation, the usu research team collaborated with several partners consisting of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and UiTM Puncak Alam to establish cooperation and expand the scope of research to be developed.
As an implementation of the development of the University's Superior Collaborative Research Program and the development of global research networks through scientific clusters, the USU research team consisting of Faculty of Forestry lecturers and SPs USU Natural Resources and Environmental Management lecturers conducted various activities related to research and cooperation in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on April 28, 2024. In addition to lecturers, students of the USU Faculty of Forestry Carrying out the Signing of Cooperation with the Center for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BBMKG) Region I Medan SPs USU Natural Resources and Environmental Management Doctoral Program also participated in this activity.
In its implementation, the USU research team collaborated with several partners consisting of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and UiTM Puncak Alam to establish cooperation and expand the scope of research to be developed. On this occasion, the USU research team, together with the partners involved, conducted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD), which discussed the topic of research development, the signing of the MoA, the implementation of the International Conference, Internal Mobility Staff, and Scientific Article Writing Workshop. In addition, the signing of the MoA was also carried out on this occasion. In addition to developing the scope of research, this collaboration activity is expected to increase USU's reputation in the global research arena and increase the number of scientific publications of lecturers, especially in research based on international collaboration.
The activity, funded by the USU Talent Equity and Research Program, began with a discussion of the Cooperation Program at the University Malaya Alumni Association Building on Sunday, April 28, 2024. A warm welcome was given by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ir. Secca Gandaseca, M.Sc as the host to the USU research team consisting of Prof. Dr. Ir. Abdul Rauf, MS, Prof. Rahmawaty, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D, (SPs USU), Prof. Dr. Ir. Agus Purwoko, S.Hut., M.Si., Dr. Ir. Pindi Patana, S.Hut., M.Sc., (Faculty of Forestry USU), Ridahati Rambey, S.Hut., M.Si., and Syawal Fitrah Harahap, S.P., M.P. (Doctoral Program PSL SPs USU). In addition to conducting FGDs, discussions of cooperation with the Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainable, UiTM Puncak Alam led by the Director of Atta Ur-Rahman Institute for Natural Product Discovery, Assoc. Prof. CHM. Dr. Fatimah Salim, B.Sc., Ph.D was also conducted on the same day, April 28, 2024.
The next day, Monday, April 29, 2024, the activity continued with an international conference at the 12th International Conference and Exhibition Geospatial and Remote Sensing held by the Malaysian Institution of Geospatial and Remote Sensing network, where the USU research team had the opportunity to become presenters and participants in the international conference. After attending the conference, the activity continued with the FGD on Collaborative Research Cooperation and the Plan for Developing Scientific Clusters into a Center for Excellence in Science and Technology “Human-Satwaliar Co-Existence” Faculty of Forestry USU on the third day, Wednesday, April 30, 2024. Then the activity was closed by implementing a Collaborative Scientific Article Writing Workshop between USU, UITM, UPM, and UM. The workshop was opened by Prof. Dr. Yarina Ahmad, Director of the Institute of Biodiversity and Sustainable Development, and in her speech, she warmly welcomed the USU team that had attended. Besides being attended by the director, other team. In her speech, she gave a warm welcome to the USU team that's from UiTM, including Assoc, who attended the workshop. Prof. Seca Gandaseca, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Aekbal Salleh, Dr. Muhammad Fuad Abdullah, Dr. Faezah Pardi, Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Nazip Suratman, and Dr. Mohd Iqbal Mohd Noor. Meanwhile, Universiti Malaya was represented by Dr. Peter Aning Tedong. The representatives from UPM are Prof. Dr. Mohd Hasmadi Ismail, Ph.D.
The workshop has produced at least 20 manuscripts of joint scientific publications between the universities involved that have been and will soon be published in various reputable international journals (indexed by Scopus Q3 to Q1). As with international research collaboration, this scientific article writing collaboration also aims to improve the reputation of universities in the global arena and improve university rankings on the QS World University Ranking (QS WUR). The visit of the USU research team in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, ended with an agreement between the two parties to visit Indonesia in the future, especially at the Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan. This plan is nothing but a form of follow-up research and implementation of other cooperation programs.
