Before carrying out simultaneous graduation at the USU Auditorium on August 21, 2024, the USU Faculty of Forestry held an Alumni Talks and Preparation for Prospective Graduates on Friday, August 16, 2024. The event lasted approximately 3 hours and was held at USU Campus 2 Kwala Bekala, Deli Serdang. This activity is one of the routine agendas held before the simultaneous implementation of graduation in the Universitas Sumatera Utara environment. The theme raised in this graduation was “Contribution of USU Faculty of Forestry Alumni to the Archipelago and Advanced Indonesia,” which presented one of the Faculty of Forestry alumni, Erizar Pasaribu, S.Hut., M.Si, who currently serves as Head of the Forest Planning and Utilization Section of KPH Region I Stabat.
The activity, which more than 60 prospective graduates attended, began with remarks by the Dean of the USU Faculty of Forestry, Dr. Rudi Hartono, S.Hut., M.Si. In his remarks, Dr. Rudi Hartono congratulated all prospective graduates of the Faculty of Forestry who had successfully passed the lecture period so they could attend the graduation period IV 2024. Dr. Rudi Hartono also conveyed several messages and advice, including becoming a tough forester and maintaining the good name of the alma mater wherever it is.
After listening to speeches, the graduation was continued with the handover of certificates as a form of appreciation for the best graduates from each study interest, namely Forest Management, Forest Resources Conservation, Forest Cultivation, and Forest Products Technology. The certificate handover and sash pinning were symbolically carried out by the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Dr. Rudi Hartono, S.Hut., M.Si., Head of the Undergraduate Program in Forestry, Dr. Ir. Tito Sucipto, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU., ASEAN Eng, Head of the Master Program in Forestry, Dr. Samsuri, S.Hut., M.Si., and by the resource person, Mr. Erizar Pasaribu, S.Hut., M.Si. The best graduate certificate was also given to Eva Maria Natalina Ginting, S.Hut., M.Si, who represented the Master of Forestry graduates in this period.
After the certificate awarding and sash pinning were completed, the series of graduation events continued with a talk show by the resource person guided by Suri Fadhilla, S.Hut., M.Sc as the moderator. While reminiscing, Erizar shared a little of his story while studying at the USU Faculty of Forestry as the opening talk show. In his presentation, he said that the challenges of students in the past were more demanding in terms of campus facilities, lecturer resources, and networks, so students in the current era must be tougher, more creative, and more qualified because they have obtained a variety of better facilities so that they can exist in work and create jobs. Erizar also told a snippet of his life story while in Australia to continue his studies. Unfortunately, his intention could not be realized because of the various moments he experienced while in the country of Kangaroo. However, he gained tremendous wisdom from his experience, from gaining experience as a worker to having a firm intention as an entrepreneur.
The enthusiasm of the prospective graduates was evident in the many questions directed to the speakers. Many of them were interested in the stories and tips for success shared by the speakers. For them, their experience is interesting and very motivating. Unfortunately, the short time frame limited the discussion. After accommodating the last question, the moderator ended the graduation program with closing remarks and a group photo.
