Dr. Pindi Patana was born and raised in the small, cool town of Sukabumi on May 25, 1975. His elementary to high school education was taken in his hometown. His nature hobby led him to the Faculty of Forestry, Bogor Agricultural University to pursue his undergraduate degree in the Department of Forest Resources Conservation through an invitation route in 1993. He earned his Bachelor of Forestry degree in the 1998 reform era. Armed with a Bachelor of Forestry degree in 1999, Pindi applied as a young lecturer at the University of North Sumatra and together pioneered the establishment of the USU Forestry Science Program. His Master's degree was taken at the Tropical International Forestry Program, Georg August Universitat Zu Gottingen, Germany with a scholarship from DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) and graduated in 2006. He earned his doctoral degree in the Natural Resources and Environmental Management Program in 2022 at the University of North Sumatra. The engineering profession was obtained in 2024 at Gadjah Mada University, and in 2025 obtained the Principal Professional Engineer (IPU) qualification. Apart from teaching, Dr. Pindi is also active in various research and community service activities. He is also often involved in conservation activities organized by the government in the scope of forestry, both central and regional, as well as non-governmental organizations, especially those related to wildlife conservation issues, human and wildlife conflict and ecotourism. Dr. Pindi leads the scientific cluster on human and wildlife co-existence. The current mandate is Vice Dean II of the USU Faculty of Forestry for the 2021-2026 period.
