Nurdin Sulistiyono, was born in Banjarnegara on July 27, 1975. Since 2000, he has worked as a lecturer at the USU Faculty of Forestry Undergraduate Program in Forestry. His areas of expertise and research are related to geospatial analysis and environmental monitoring, environmental services, and landscape ecology. Much of Dr. Nurdin's research has been related to land cover change modeling, dynamic spatial modeling, spatial modeling of animal habitat, spatial modeling of human-animal conflict vulnerability, spatial modeling of disaster vulnerability, carbon distribution modeling, utilization of remote sensing passive sensors (optical) and active sensors (RADAR) for forest and environmental monitoring such as deforestation and forest degradation, economic valuation of forest environmental services, sustainable landscape management analysis and mangrove ecosystem service management.
Dr. Nurdin actively teaches in the USU Faculty of Forestry Undergraduate Program in Forestry in environmental spatial analysis, forestry statistics, landscape ecology, environmental services, forest valuation, and conservation area management. Nurdin also teaches at the USU Master's Program in Forestry in statistical analysis, disaster mitigation of climate change impacts, ecotourism management and environmental services conservation, and economic valuation of forest ecosystem services. Nurdin also actively teaches at USU's Master of Regional and Rural Development Planning (PWD) Program in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and planning studio courses. In addition, Nurdin has also been a non-permanent lecturer at the Agricultural Development Polytechnic (POLBANGTAN) Medan in the course of Precision Plantation Instruments since 2018.
Nurdin is active in community service activities, especially in 2 USU assisted villages, namely Lubuk Kertang Village, Langkat Regency, in terms of mangrove ecosystem management and monitoring, and Timbang Lawan Village, Langkat Regency, in terms of mitigating animal conflicts with humans through restoration activities and ecotourism utilization.
Besides actively teaching, conducting research, and community service, Dr. Nurdin is currently active in the USU Mangrove Science and Technology Center of Excellence (PUI), and serves as the Research Coordinator for Mangrove Restoration, Conservation and Management. Dr. Nurdin is also a member of various professional associations such as MAPIN (Indonesian Remote Sensing Society), ISME (International Society for Mangrove Ecosystem), MBI (Indonesian Biodiversity Society), PII (Indonesian Engineers Association), and ADI (Indonesian Lecturers Association).
