Dr. Ir. Muhdi, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU., ASEAN Eng. is a full-time lecturer at the USU Faculty of Forestry Undergraduate Program in Forestry. He was born in Ujan Mas Lama (Muara Enim) on June 19, 1974, as the fifth child of H. Syeh Ahmad Bin H. Syahri Ramadhan and Hj. Husmah Binti H. Syeh Bourdad. He is married to Prof. Dr. Diana Sofia Hanafiah, SP., MP., with three children: Muhammad Hafizh Abdurrohman, Muhammad Hafazh Abdurrohim, and Shadrina Alyani. He received his Bachelor of Forestry degree from the Faculty of Forestry, Bogor Agricultural University in June 1998. In February 2001, he received his Master of Science degree from the Master of Forestry Science Program, Graduate School of Bogor Agricultural University. Then, in 2007-2012, he attended the Doctoral Program in Forest Management at the Graduate School of Bogor Agricultural University, funded by the Dikti Postgraduate Education Scholarship (BPPS).
Since December 2001, he has served as a CPNS Lecturer at the USU Undergraduate Program in Forestry. In January 2003, he was appointed a PNS (III/b) lecturer at the USU Faculty of Forestry Undergraduate Program in Forestry. On March 1, 2009, he was appointed to the academic/functional position of Associate Professor on the subject of Forest Harvesting. On April 1, 2017, through Presidential Decree No. 00043/KEP/AA/15001/17, effective April 1, 2017, he was promoted to the rank of Senior Pembina (IV/c). During his career at Universitas Sumatera Utara, he was trusted as the Head of the USU Faculty of Agriculture Undergraduate Program in Forestry Forest Products Technology Laboratory/Workshop 2001-2004, Head of the USU Faculty of Agriculture Undergraduate Program in Forest Products Technology 2002-2006, and Secretary of the USU Faculty of Forestry Department of Forest Management, 2017-2021.
In addition to teaching, he is also actively involved in research and community service funded by TALENTA USU and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology's Research and Technology Grant. He has also published his research and community service results at national and international seminars and scientific articles in national and international journals with a good reputation. Based on data released by Sinta as of January 20, 2024, he has an H-Index Scopus of 4 and a Google Scholar of 8. He also holds 2 simple patents.
Training/workshops attended in the last three years: Training and development of assessment and learning strategies, Project Learning and Case Method for lecturers, workshop on Curriculum Development with the OBE Approach Towards ASIIN International Accreditation, Training on Understanding the Implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (K3) in Forest Management and Forest Industries, and National Workshop on the Effectiveness of SVLK Implementation.
The educator certificate in the field of Forest Management was received in September 2014. Professional organizations he is involved in include Member of the Association of Indonesian Forestry Graduates (PERSAKI), Association of Indonesian Forest Product Harvesting Professionals (PERPHINDO), Indonesian Climate Change Researchers Association (APIKI), Indonesian Forest Management Community (KOMHINDO), Indonesian Engineers Association (PII), and ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AEFO).
The awards he has received include: Best Scientific Paper I in the Science Field at USU in 2004, Second Best Presenter at the USU FP National Seminar in 2016, received the Satya Lancana Karya Satya X Year Award from the President of Indonesia in 2014. In 2015, the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara awarded him the USU Outstanding Lecturer I. In 2021, he received the Pioneer Registered Engineer of Forestry Engineering Award from the Ministry of Forestry and Environment of the Republic of Indonesia.
