Arif Nuryawan is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara. His expertise is in the field of forest products technology, particularly wood science, and technology related to adhesive bonding for lignocellulosic materials, interface and interphase for micromorphology assessment, and composite products for innovative substitution of wood. His educational background was a bachelor's degree in forestry from the Department of Forest Products Technology, Faculty of Forestry, IPB University, Indonesia (2001); a master of science from the School of Postgraduate, IPB University, Indonesia (2007); and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Department of Wood and Paper Science, College Agriculture & Life Sciences, Kyungpook National University, Republic of Korea (South Korea) (2015). As a lecturer, he has actively supervised more than 100 undergraduate students and 5 masters, while as a researcher, he has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles (in the proceeding, journal, and book chapters). During serving as academician, he also had responsibilities as Secretary of Study Program of Forest Products Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, USU (2004-2005), Head of Laboratory of Forest Products Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, USU (2010-2011), Head of Laboratory of Forest Products Technology, Faculty of Forestry, USU (2015-2016), Head of Department of Forest Products Technology, Faculty of Forestry, USU (2017-2021), Section Head for Research, Development, Innovation, and Partnership, Integrated Research Laboratory, USU (2021-2022), Manager of Global Partnership, Directorate of Internationalization & Global Partnership, USU (2022), and Secretary to Director, Directorate of Internationalization & Global Partnership, USU (2023-now). To develop his career in academia, he has been actively involved in the Center of Excellence for Mangrove USU and established a Cluster of Knowledge of Wood Adhesive. From this point, many collaborations with peers have been carried out nationally and internationally.
