Profile

Anita Zaitunah was born in Bogor, West Java, on August 30, 1973, as the fourth child among six siblings. Currently, she is a mother of two children. Her educational journey began with a Bachelor's degree (S.Hut) from the Faculty of Forestry at IPB University in 1997. She pursued her Master of Science (M.Sc) at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, specializing in Forestry for Sustainable Development at the University of Twente, The Netherlands, in 2004. She completed her Doctoral degree (Dr) in Forestry Science at IPB University in 2012. During her master's and doctoral studies, she received scholarships from The Netherlands Fellowship Program (NFP) and the Postgraduate Education Scholarship (BPPS) from the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia.

Since 1999, Dr. Anita Zaitunah has been working as a lecturer and researcher at the USU Faculty of Forestry Undergraduate Program in Forestry. From 2021 to 2026, she serves as the Head of the Forest Management Laboratory at the USU Faculty of Forestry Undergraduate Program in Forestry. As a lecturer, she actively engages in the Triple Mission of Higher Education, involving education, research, and community service through various activities. Supporting activities include serving as a Judge for Outstanding Students at USU, Coordinator of the Community Service Program (PKM) Corner at the Faculty of Forestry, and Chair of the Scientific Cluster "Land Management for Climate Change Adaptation," involving faculty members from USU and colleagues from IPB University, Universitas Mulawarman, Radboud University the Netherlands, and Leibniz Hannover University Germany.

Her expertise lies in remote sensing, geographic information systems, and forest management, applied through research works, publications, books, and dissemination in national and international seminars. She has received several awards throughout her career, including the Satyalancana Karya Satya XX from the President of Indonesia (2023) and the Best Advisor 2 at USU (2023).

She is currently a member of various scientific organizations, professional associations, hobbyist organizations, and social organizations, such as the Indonesian Forest Management Community, the Remote Sensing Experts Society, Pusaka JATI, and the Indonesian Lecturers Association. Dr. Anita has also initiated international collaborations since 2004 by conducting guest lectures with foreign guest lecturers and participating in guest lectures in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System courses. Other collaborative activities include serving as a supervising lecturer for the Living Lab - Nuffic Southeast Asia in 2023, participating in a study visit to Germany with funding from DAAD Germany and USU in 2023, conducting activities at Humboldt Berlin University, Leibniz Hannover University, and Goethe Frankfurt University.
