Three research proposals from lecturers of the Faculty of Forestry USU have been awarded the 2026 DPPM USU Continuing Multi-Year Research Grant. The studies focus on mangrove ecosystem research and the development of an Eco Forest City model in Medan.

The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has once again achieved an accomplishment in the field of research. Three research proposals from lecturers of the Faculty of Forestry have successfully received the 2026 Continuing Multi-Year Research Grant from DPPM USU.
Two of the projects are led by Prof. Mohammad Basyuni, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D., titled “Diversity and Activity of Nitrifying Bacteria Based on Morphology, Biochemical Activity, and Molecular Analysis in Mangrove Sediments of North Sumatra (PPS-PMDSU Scheme)” and “Exploration and Application of DNA Barcoding and eDNA Metabarcoding for Monitoring Genetic and Phenotypic Diversity of Mangrove Ecosystems in North Sumatra (PPS-PMDSU Scheme).”
Another research project is led by Prof. Ir. Rahmawaty, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D., IPU., titled “Development of an Eco Forest City Model Based on Urban Tree Management in Medan City (PPS-PDD Scheme).”
This achievement represents one of the contributions of the Faculty of Forestry USU lecturers in advancing research that supports the sustainable management of natural resources, while also strengthening the role of academics in producing science-based innovations.
The Faculty of Forestry at USU hopes that this achievement will further encourage the development of research and scientific collaboration that provides meaningful benefits for the environment and society.
