Komting, short for Komandan Tingkat, refers to student representatives at the department or study program level who are selected by their classmates to serve as a liaison between students, lecturers, and the study program.
In the Forestry Study Program at USU, class representatives play a role in helping communicate academic information from lecturers or the study program to students and vice versa. They also help coordinate various academic needs to ensure that classroom activities run smoothly.
Their responsibilities include communicating information about lectures, coordinating make-up classes or additional sessions, assisting with administrative matters, and conveying students’ concerns and feedback to lecturers or the study program. Class representatives therefore play an important role in maintaining effective communication within the academic environment.
In addition, class representatives help maintain solidarity and communication among students, including ensuring that all students properly receive information shared through class communication groups.
Class representatives may be selected through mutual agreement or voting among students in the same class. Serving as a class representative requires an active, communicative, and responsible attitude, as well as a willingness to represent classmates in various academic matters.
Being a class representative is not only about communicating information, but also about learning to lead, communicate, coordinate, and take responsibility.
